Session 4: Thrive - Sustaining It: Habits, Boundaries, and Community for the Long Haul
In this final session of the NEA and NNSTOY Back-to-School webinar series, 2024 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year Dr. De'Shawn Washington shows how educators can move beyond individual resilience to build sustainable habits, boundaries, and classroom community. Drawing on his own difficult first year of teaching, he introduces the CRAZY framework: Cultivating connections, Respect and routines, Activating student voice, Zooming into learning, and Yielding to achievement. Participants reflect on their own practice throughout and leave with strategies they can use the next day, from co-creating a class ethos to using talk moves and celebrating daily wins. Whether you are in your first year or your thirtieth, this session offers practical tools to help you and your students thrive all year long.
