Description
Many students are impacted by trauma, and educators must understand how traumatic experiences can shape a wide range of student behaviors. In this online blended‑learning course, participants will examine the physiological, psychological, and behavioral effects of trauma on learners. The course also explores how to collaborate within a school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide effective, equitable interventions. Educators will gain practical strategies for creating supportive learning environments, responding to student needs, and connecting families with appropriate resources.
Objectives
Participants will learn:
- How trauma affects the brain and influences student behavior and learning
- How to support students with trauma using Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions
- What schoolwide systems and structures should be in place to support students experiencing trauma
- How educators can partner with families and connect them to community support services
- Strategies to de-escalate challenging situations in a safe and supportive manner
- Ethical considerations when working with students who have experienced trauma
