This 15-hour NEA Blended Learning facilitated course introduces the C.A.R.E. themes through an equity and civil rights lens. Participants will examine how these themes can be applied in educational contexts to address systemic inequities, reduce opportunity and achievement gaps, and support student success. The course emphasizes the federal role in educational equity and provides practical strategies for identifying and responding to inequitable conditions in schools and communities.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the federal role in addressing opportunity and achievement gaps in education.
  • Analyze the root causes of opportunity and achievement gaps, including systemic and structural factors.
  • Differentiate between the opportunity gap and the achievement gap and explain how each impacts student outcomes.
  • Apply the C.A.R.E. themes as tools to address inequities and mitigate identified gaps.
  • Develop an actionable plan based on a needs assessment to address a specific equity-related need or issue in their educational context.
