To effectively support the diverse needs of students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds, it is imperative to understand the concept of "culture" and how it impacts the teaching and learning process.
This course presents culturally relevant pedagogy as a teaching method that leverages learners’ cultural knowledge, backgrounds, and experiences. This makes the learning process more meaningful and suitable, thereby enhancing student achievement.
Virtual Class Meetings: 10/7; 10/21 & 11/11 from 6–7:00 pm Eastern/Central/Pacific/Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time
Objectives
Course Outcomes:
- How to define culture and its characteristics.
- How to build strong relationships with your multilingual students and their families.
- The meaning of culturally relevant practices and how to implement them in your classroom.
- How to support your Multilingual Learners with scaffolded lessons.
- How to consider the social-emotional impacts of being a Multilingual Learner.
