CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Positive Responses to Challenging Behaviors

This course is designed for educators who want to improve their response to challenging student behaviors. Having a student with challenging behavior can be disruptive and interfere with other students' learning. It can also be one of the most stressful situations that educators face. The good news is that proven strategies can ease the situation and help educators form positive relationships with all students in the process.

Objectives

Course Objectives:

  • Learn strategies to build positive relationships with students.
  • Identify and reflect on specific student behavior and its level of challenge.
  • Identify one or more strategies to address the challenging behavior positively, matching the strategy to the behavior and the specific student.
  • Learn strategies to support students in setting behavioral goals and monitoring their progress.
  • Identify follow-up strategies, such as behavior management plans, parent communication, and confidential documentation, to prevent future behavioral events.
