Description

Through a review of relevant research and resources, this course will support educators in a process of self-examination around some of the assumptions we may make about the effort our culturally and linguistically diverse students exert, then examine what energizes them to learn.

Objectives

Course Outcomes

  • Understand the difference between effort and motivation in student learning
  • Challenge assumptions we have around student effort and motivation
  • Reflect on indicators of practices of communicating with and engaging students
  • Explore strategies to increase student effort and motivation which include building on students’ interests, experiences, and knowledge.
  • Design a plan for increasing effort and motivation for all students.
